Program participants will be inspired by various speakers, serving to share the purpose of the VIL Lab program. Connections to Entrepreneurship and Innovation, program outcomes and conference strands will be made, including relevant materials for effective application. Products and innovations produced in a lab will be shared.
In this session, attendees will receive an overview of the four Lab courses available to them, including introductions to each set of course objectives, key indicators of active learning environments, and a practical understanding of entrepreneurship principles. They will also learn the navigational steps to locate valuable resources for optimizing their teaching strategies.
In this session, attendees will deepen their understanding of transformative learning spaces, highlighting collaborative, authentic, and goal-oriented learning environments through a comprehensive exploration of our curriculum design and cutting-edge Lab technology. Attendees will also delve into seamlessly integrating Project-Based Learning, design thinking, and immersive learning techniques into course connections, showcasing their potential to foster critical thinking and prepare learners for real-world challenges.
This small group session will allow attendees to share their aspirations for the Lab as they connect with fellow Lab educators and develop a peer network. Program participants will team up with veteran Lab Mentors (Senior Lab Mentors) to reflect on the day’s learnings and share how their unique school context connects with the Lab.
Program participants will meet and greet various teams and contributors to their Lab's sustained programmatic success. Participants will leave this session with an understanding of the support model and program expectations.
Program participants will identify classroom norms and strategies that contribute to effective classroom management in and of the VIL Lab. The focus of this session will be on managing the Lab space while working with emerging technology and the organization of materials in a tech-infused learning environment. Content explored will include: Tech fails and lesson saves, maintaining the Lab, inventorying Lab materials, sharing and promoting the Lab space with other teachers and in the community, and creating an inclusive student environment. Program participants will fill their toolkits with ideas and best practices as they learn from peers while brainstorming ideas in small group collaborative discussions.
Program participants will receive an overview of the purpose and format of the Verizon Innovative Learning Lab program instance of Canvas. They will also participate in a tour of how to find content, resources and troubleshooting support in Canvas. They will self-identify their Canvas readiness to participate in subsequent Canvas breakout sessions.
In breakout rooms, participants will explore thier individual VIL Lab Canvas accounts for the purpose of implementing the Lab curriculum.
Intermediate emphasis: Registering students, preventing duplicate student accounts, managing progress and pre-requisites, using sections and customizing your course
Program participants will explore components of their Lab's sustained programmatic success using the Program Planning Worksheet. Participants will examine strategies for meeting program requirements, elective planning, engaging other educators to enhance lessons and projects and ideas for community-facing events. This session will provide our participants with the opportunity to network and share ideas and aspirations with other forward-thinking and innovative educators.
In small groups, participants will connect with their peers and continue buidling their Lab community network. Together with their Senior Lab Mentor, participants will reflect on and share out their future aspirations for the Lab.
